How to Make a Body Mask For Naturally Glowing Skin

Blueberries are just starting to come into season here in Western North Carolina. The blueberries grow wild and can be found most anywhere, while the peaches are more scarce. Most people think about eating these fresh or making jam or ice cream, but I have something different in mind.

Using Blueberries for Skin

You probably know that eating blueberries is very beneficial to your health – they contain large amounts of anthocyanins, the antioxidant that makes up the dark blue color. While this is great internally, they can do your body a lot of good externally as well. They are also high in Vitamin A, known for helping to keep skin healthy, and Vitamin C, another antioxidant that helps keep skin from aging. Blueberries also have fiber, which is thought to aid in the digestive process to eliminate toxins from the body.

Benefits of Peaches for Skin

Peaches also contain vitamins A and C that are so beneficial for skin. Furthermore, they contain fruit acids which act like a mild chemical peel, helping to slough off dead skin cells and expose brighter skin. Used regularly, peaches can help reduce fine lines and leave skin glowing. The term “peaches and cream skin” came from women of years past using peaches on their face as a scrub. It is also believed that peach juice applied to the skin can help as a sunscreen. It isn’t a high SPF – probably somewhere close to 5-10 SPF.

Homemade Body Mask With Fresh Fruit

I love to make these amazing fruits into a homemade body mask. I’m 53, but I still suffer from breakouts. The blueberry peach mask was one of the natural things I tried that really helps control breakouts. I first used it on my face, then moved to the rest of the body.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • about 1 pound fresh blueberries, rinsed
  • 6-7 ripe peaches, rinsed and cut up
  • blender or food processor
  • paintbrush (with bristles about 3″ wide)
  • optional, old tarp or shower curtain (for standing on)

  1. Since blueberries can be messy and peaches are sticky, I recommend applying this beauty treatment while standing in the tub or on an old tarp/shower curtain. You could also do this outside, out of the direct sun. (The juice can dry very quickly in the sun, leaving you with a sticky mess!) I wore a bikini when I applied the homemade body mask outdoors.
  2. For the mask, you can use a blender or food processor. Wash fruit, then cut up peaches. Place fruit in the blender or food processor and process. Add a little distilled water if needed to make a smooth paste. Transfer to a bowl.
  3. Get your paintbrush and bowl of processed fruit, and get into the tub or onto your tarp. Begin painting your body all over, avoiding your eyes, ears, nose and mouth. (NOTE: Since the fruit acids can cause bacterial growth, keep it away from your private parts.)
  4. After painting your whole body, leave it on for about 15 minutes. It may itch a bit, but that’s normal as the fruit juice dries some. (This is a good time to catch up on some reading.)
  5. When you’re ready to take it off, spray your body with a stream of warm water first, to loosen up anything that may be dried. Then use an old washcloth or bath pouf and get the rest of it off of your skin. I always put a mesh strainer in the drain just in case there’s a lot of solid matter, then I shower off to remove the last remaining bits. Use this mask no more than once a week.

Homemade Body Scrub Option

If you want to make this into a homemade body scrub, mix the fruit blend with some ground salt just before applying. If you do it too far ahead of time, the salt will just dissolve. Instead of painting, grab some in your hand and scrub into the skin. You can leave it on for the same amount of time, but it is very likely to itch as the salt dries.

Naturally Glowing Skin

This fresh fruit body mask is a great way to get healthy, glowing skin naturally! I’ll bet this is the first time you’ve used blueberries and peaches in a unique manner such as this!
