Elastic fibers are attached to the sheets to gather the edges of the nappy into the proper shape so it fits snugly around a baby’s legs and crotch.
When properly fitted, the disposable nappy will retain body fluids which pass through the permeable top sheet and are absorbed into the pad. The disposable nappy absorbs 15 times its weight in water.

Packs of disposable diapers have labels that give a rough idea of the size depending on a certain range of baby weight. Because babies come in different shapes and sizes, designs and layers of different manufacturers are different, it may be worth trying a smaller pack first. You may prefer the design and setting of one brand over another.
