Spring will soon be blooming so this is a great time to take stock of your skin care routine and your skin care products. With spring about to start this is the time to go through and sort your skin care products, get rid of old products, and think about which products you are currently using and if they really work for your skin. Take the time to really think about how you would like your skin to look and feel so you can work toward that goal now.
Sort Through Your Products

First things first, take all your skin care products out and line them up. I mean everything – the bottle of cleanser that has been sitting in the corner of your shower for six months, those samples you received the last time you bought something at Sephora, and that moisturizer with just a little bit left at the bottom. Now look at everything you lined up:

Are any products separated?
Has anything changed color?
Have any products expired?
Are you holding on to a bottle that hardly has any product left in it (by that I mean less than a third of the product)?

If you answered yes to any of the above about your products – throw them out! Believe me when I say that I know how hard it can be to throw out products that you have hardly used, but if you haven’t used them up by now you won’t. Get rid of them and start over.

Now that you’ve had a good look at your skin care products and have kept the ones that are not expired or old – what do you have left? Do you have the basic four skin care products that everyone needs? Make sure you have a cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, and sunscreen that work with what is going on with your skin right now. Since the winter cold is giving way to warmer weather you start using skin care products that have a lighter consistency. It’s probably time to put away the thick, creamy moisturizer that your skin so desperately needed in the winter and get a moisturizer that is water based and feels less heavy on the skin. Can your exfoliator help your skin deal with weather that is starting to get more humid? As the humidity rises your skin will start to feel sticky, and you’ll want an exfoliator that can gently but effectively whisk away excess oil and dead skin cells without stripping your skin. If you’ve been using a creamy cleanser you might want to consider using a foaming or gel cleanser as the weather warms up.
A Great Time To Try New Products and Services

Spring is a great time to branch out and try new things. Unlike during winter when you are trying to preserve healthy skin spring weather is usually mild enough that experimenting with a few new products won’t leave your skin too dry or irritated. But before you start your experimentation I would go get a professional facial. The change in seasons is the perfect time for a professional treatment since an esthetician can get rid of the last remnants of dry winter skin, help reveal dewy, fresh skin, and massage new life into your skin. A facial will kick start your spring skin renewal and will allow for your products to penetrate and work better afterwards.

If you’ve been eyeing a new serum, moisturizer, or exfoliant spring is a good time to try products. Now that the weather is moving away from being cold, and before it becomes too hot and sunny, your skin should be in the ideal condition to try new skin care ingredients and delivery methods. Do practice some caution when buying new products though. If you go overboard you might just end up with a bathroom full of products that you never use. See if you can get samples of products before you purchase full size containers or at the very least read online reviews of the products before purchasing.
